India is observing Martyrs' Day on Wednesday to pay tribute to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
On March 23, 1931, three freedom fighters laid down their lives for India's freedom from colonial rule. The three were convicted for the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police JP Saunders in 1928 to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. Years later, people still remember Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev for their significant contribution to Indias independence in 1947.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Tributes to the immortal sons of Mother India, Veer Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on their martyrdom day." His passion towards dying for the motherland will always inspire the countrymen. Jai Hind!

Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Describing Sukhdev and Rajguru as the 'strong pillars' of the Indian independence moment, he said, "We are proud of them, Home Minister Amit Shah said his patriotism and dedication to the motherland not only instilled a sense of freedom against the tyranny of foreign rule, But even today, their sacrifice serves and inspires every Indian.
pic.twitter.com/pudX87Bmlw

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and others also paid their respects.
The British Raj had sentenced the three to death for their involvement in the murder of John Saunders, whom they had mistaken for British Superintendent of Police James Scott. He wanted to kill Scott because he believed that he had played an important role in the death of the famous nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai. Jail did not subdue Singh, who also participated in the hunger strike behind the bars, demanding better rights for the imprisoned Indians. It is a fearless spirit that Indians celebrate Martyrs' Day every year.
While Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a holiday on March 23, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the armed forces preparatory school announced by his government last year would be named after revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.
Jai hind 🙏👍
