Pushkar Singh Dhami sworn in as Uttarakhand chief minister for second time

Mr. Akash Pal 1

Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand at the Parade Ground in Dehradun. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief J.P. Nadda.

Along with the CM, his cabinet also took oath of office and secrecy. Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dhami and his eight ministers.

Speculation was rife that Dhami would return to power after he failed to win the Khatima seat in the recently-concluded state assembly elections. The BJP, however, expressed confidence in him, saying at least six MLAs in the state have already offered to vacate their seats for Dhami.

Ahead of her swearing-in ceremony, Dhami offered prayers at the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple as well as at a Hanuman temple on Chakrata Road, Dehradun.

Dhami, the youngest chief minister of the state, was replaced by former chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat in July last year. Rawat, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister on March 10 last year, resigned citing "constitutional crisis" after he was not elected to the Uttarakhand Assembly within a six-month deadline. He was chosen by the central leadership as the successor to Trivendra Singh Rawat, whose relations with the RSS and several BJP leaders had reportedly turned tense.
