What is Global Positioning System(GPS) -
GPS or Global Positioning System is one of the hottest technologies in the vicinity. Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system consisting of a network of 24 satellites placed in orbit by the US Department of Defense.

The concept began in the late 1960s, but the first satellite was not launched until February 1978. In 1989, Maglan Corp introduced the first hand-held GPS receiver. In 1992, GPS was used in Operation Desert Storm. On March 1, 1996, the president decided to make GPS free for civilian users.

The working of a Global positioning System(GPS) -
GPS satellites orbit the earth in a very precise orbit twice a day and transmit the signal information to the earth. GPS receivers take this information and use the triangle to calculate the exact location of the user.
Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time when a signal was received by a satellite. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user's position and display it on the electronic map of the unit.
A GPS receiver must be locked at the signals of at least three satellites to calculate a 2dee position (latitude and longitude) and track speed. Given four or more satellites, the receiver can determine the user's 3D position (latitude, longitude, and altitude). Once the user's location is determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information such as speed, impact, track, travel distance, destination distance, sunrise and sunset time, and so on.
