"The CBI prosecutor, while seeking 14-day custody of the former NSE MD, argued that she was "delaying her replies" and also "refused to identify" the co-accused Subramanian."
A Delhi court has granted seven-day custody of former NSE CEO and MD Chitra Ramakrishna, who was arrested by the agency in 2018 in a case of exchange manipulation.
Ramakrishna was arrested by the central agency on Sunday as the second high-profile arrest in the case. Last month, the agency had arrested Anand Subramaniam, a former group operating officer of NSE and a deputy and confidante of Ramakrishnan.
"The CBI prosecutor sought Ramakrishna's custody for 14 days from Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Agarwal, arguing that she was "delaying her replies"and, despite facing Subramanian, she "refused to recognise him".
"The prosecutor told the court that Ramakrishna faced 2,500 emails between him and the accused, which ""influenced the decision making of the accused""."
"On March 5, when Ramakrishnan's anticipatory bail was rejected, the court had pulled up the CBI, terming its probe ""lax"" and said the agency had not taken action against the main beneficiaries of the scam."
ASJ Sanjeev Agarwal said, "For four years, no action was taken. The main beneficiaries are all enjoying themselves. The FIR was in cold storage."""
The CBI prosecutor told the court that the agency was moving ahead with the probe after "certain documents emerged"
ASJ Agarwal said it was strange that Ramakrishna himself had joined the investigation which was rare. Its very strange. He went to the CBI office. Who goes to the CBI office? "Did he get some assurance from the CBI or was there any divine intervention," the judge asked.
