The White House said on Tuesday that Harris had tested positive in both rapid and PCR tests, and that she "has shown no symptoms". Harris will be isolated at her residence, but will continue to work from a distance, and will return to the White House only after testing negative for the virus.
Harris, 57, received her first dose of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine just weeks before taking office and received her second dose a few days after the opening day in 2021. He received a booster shot at the end of October and an additional booster on April 1.
Fully vaccinated and enhanced people have high levels of protection against severe illness and death from COVID-19, especially from the most common and highly contagious Omicron version.
The White House said neither President Joe Biden nor First Lady Jill Biden were considered "close contacts" with Harris in recent times.
